Unicorn Real-Time Rating is a part of the Unicorn Billing solution but can also be deployed as a stand alone real-time rating engine. It sits independently from the network elements and is a combination of different processes, which are sequentially dependent on each other's output. The Unicorn Real-Time Rating Module manages resources optimally by using load-balancing processes and reduces the possibility of failure by managing the process-state in real-time. The entire chain, from the input of a delivery file of event details to collection and posting priced event details into the database is considered as a rating pipe, which consists of different functional blocks. Multiple instances of such functional blocks scale up the capability of an individual pipe, whilst multiple pipes within one system increase the scalability and throughput of the system.
